The name “Bacata” comes from the indigenous Muisca and Chibcha communities, who named the land that is now Bogotá “Bacata,” meaning “campo de labranza” or field of cultivation. For us, Bacata symbolizes growth, resilience, and the nurturing of dreams. Our café in Ottawa is a field where tradition meets innovation, every cup of coffee celebrates our Colombian roots and the vibrant cultural tapestry of our homeland.
Meet the Faces Behind Bacata
We’re Aleja and Diego, siblings from Bogotá, Colombia, and the founders of Bacata. Our love for Colombian coffee culture brought us to Ottawa, where we’re dedicated to sharing its rich flavours and traditions. We source our coffee directly from Colombian farmers and roast it locally to ensure the freshest, highest-quality brews. Sustainability and ethical sourcing are at the heart of what we do, every cup tells a story of tradition, passion, and community.
